# Lipoma Removal in Bangalore

A lipoma is a soft, harmless lump of fat cells under the skin, the most common benign soft-tissue tumour. At Contura Clinic, Bangalore, Dr Sreekar Harinatha removes most lipomas under local anaesthesia in about 2–5 minutes each. The cut is usually less than a third of the lump's width and placed to hide the scar. Large lipomas can be removed with liposuction.


## What is a lipoma?

A soft, usually painless lump of fat cells in the layer under the skin. Rarely, one presses on a nerve and hurts.


## When should a lipoma be checked?

If it grows quickly or becomes painful. Cancerous change is very rare, and is seen more often in people aged 50–65.


## Do I need a scan?

An ultrasound usually confirms a lipoma. A scan helps when it sits near nerves or blood vessels or looks unusual. Only removal and testing can confirm the diagnosis.

## How is it removed?

Through a small cut, less than a third of its width, under local anaesthesia. Liposuction is an option for large lipomas, with a slight chance of recurrence. Several lipomas may be removed under general or spinal anaesthesia.


## Stitches, recovery and cost

Stitches are removed after 7–10 days, or dissolving stitches are used. Most people return to normal activities in 1–2 days. As a guide, lipoma removal in Bangalore costs about ₹20,000–₹30,000, depending on size and number.
