A chemical peel applies a controlled acid solution to the skin, which removes damaged outer layers and reveals smoother, more even skin underneath. ## Aftercare and side effects

- Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun, so use SPF 30+ sunscreen daily.
- Pores may look larger for a short time.
- Deep peels can lighten the skin.
- Peels can trigger cold sores or skin allergies in some people. Tell your doctor if you get cold sores.
- Don't try strong peels at home. They can burn the skin and worsen pigmentation.
