What is gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia is the enlargement of breast tissue in men. It is medically harmless, but it often causes embarrassment and low confidence, especially in fitted clothes.

Can diet or exercise get rid of gynecomastia?
No. True gynecomastia is caused by breast gland tissue, not just fat. Diet and exercise can reduce chest fat, but they cannot remove gland tissue. Surgery is the only way to remove the gland.

How is gynecomastia surgery done at Contura?
Dr Sreekar Harinatha developed the lipo-excision technique, which is published in the World Journal of Plastic Surgery. It has three steps:
- Liposuction: ultrasonic or power-assisted liposuction removes the extra fat from the chest.
- Gland removal: the firm gland under the nipple is removed through a small cut at the edge of the areola.
- Chest contouring: the remaining tissue is shaped for a smooth, natural chest.
About 95% of the gland is removed, not 100%. Removing all of it, or overly aggressive liposuction, can cause a sunken "crater" under the nipple. Leaving a thin layer keeps the chest looking natural.
What happens on the day of surgery?
- Arrive at about 8–9 am on an empty stomach. Blood tests are done a few days before.
- Sign the consent forms. Dr Sreekar marks your chest and confirms the plan.
- The anaesthetist explains your anaesthesia and you move to the operating theatre.
- Lipo-excision takes 60–90 minutes under sterile conditions.
- You rest in the recovery suite under monitoring, then walk.
