Who is breast augmentation for?
Breast augmentation may suit you if:
- your breasts look too small for your frame, in or out of a bra
- you lost breast volume after pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss or ageing
- your breasts are noticeably different sizes
- you are 18 or older and in good health
If you like your size in a bra but your breasts sag, a breast lift may suit you better. Some women need both, done in one surgery.

How do I choose the right implant size?
There is no fixed formula. Dr Sreekar measures your breast width, the distance from nipple to fold and how much your skin stretches. You then try sample implants inside a bra to see each size. He also explains the "rice test" to try sizes at home.
How is breast augmentation done at Contura?
- You receive general anaesthesia, which relaxes the chest muscles fully for safe placement.
- A small cut is made around the areola or in the breast crease, depending on your anatomy.
- A pocket is made behind the breast tissue or under the chest muscle.
- The implant is placed with the Funnel no-touch technique: it slides from a sterile funnel into the pocket without touching your skin.
- The cut is closed with dissolving stitches.
Why the no-touch Funnel technique matters: it allows a shorter cut and scar, lowers the risk of contamination and infection, causes less bruising, and protects the implant shell.
Recovery after breast augmentation

- Day 2: most women no longer need regular pain medicine.
- Days 3–5: back to desk work.
- 2 weeks: sex and strenuous activity can resume.
- About 1 month: most swelling settles.
What are the risks of breast implants?
- Capsular contracture: the scar capsule around the implant tightens and the breast feels firm. It affects 3–5% of patients and may need another procedure.
- Bleeding (haematoma) that may need draining
- Infection, which in rare cases means removing the implant for a while
- Changes in nipple or breast sensation, usually temporary
- Implant rupture, which becomes more likely after about 10 years
Studies show no increased risk of breast cancer or connective tissue disease with silicone or saline implants. Textured implants have been linked to a rare type of lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). Your surgeon will explain this risk at your consultation.

Can I breastfeed after breast implants?

Not on a fixed schedule. A soft implant in a good position can stay in place indefinitely. The shell weakens after about 10 years, so the risk of rupture rises, and a ruptured implant should be replaced.
Silicone or saline implants: which is better?
Both are safe and perform well long term. Silicone feels softer and more natural, and saline feels firmer. Dr Sreekar mainly uses cohesive silicone gel implants.
How long is the downtime after breast augmentation?
Most women return to desk work in 3–5 days and stop regular pain medicine within 2 days. Avoid sex and strenuous exercise for 2 weeks.
Can breast augmentation be done under local anaesthesia?
No. At Contura, all breast augmentations are done under general anaesthesia. Local anaesthesia cannot relax the chest muscles enough to place the implant safely.
Can I have children after breast implants?
Yes. Many women have children after breast augmentation. Pregnancy can change breast shape, so some choose to wait until they have finished having children.
