FAQs about Breast Reduction in Bangalore

1. What is breast reduction surgery?

Breast Reduction is also known as reduction mammaplasty and aims to reduce the size of the breast and lift it into a higher position on the chest wall. During the procedure, the surgeon removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin to achieve the desired breast size and look

2. When should one opt for a Breast reduction?

It is chosen by women with breasts that are too large for their frame. A popular misconception is that only women with very large breasts are good candidates for breast reduction. But the size is subjective and even a woman with a moderately big breast can benefit from breast reduction. Overly large breasts can cause some women to have both health and emotional problem.

3. What are the advantages of breast reduction?

The woman notices an immediate end to back and neck pain. After the immediate post-op period, women are able to maintain a more active life with more frequent exercise. Women also fit into normal-sized blouses and bras.

4. Where are the scars, and what tissues are removed in a breast reduction?

Breast reduction surgery usually requires the nipple and areola to be raised and the extra skin and tissue to be removed. So breast reduction surgery requires that an incision be made around the nipple and areola to reposition them as well as under the breast to remove redundant skin.

A vertical breast reduction limits scars to around the areola and a single vertical scar below it. A Wise-pattern breast reduction, used for particularly large breasts with large amounts of extra skin, also includes an incision on the undersurface of the breast and is sometimes referred to as an “anchor” scar.

5. How does a breast reduction affect pregnancy?

In women, a breast reduction can be performed before you become, or are actively planning to become, pregnant – particularly if the breasts cause functional problems like back and shoulder pain, or hygiene issues. If you are interested in breast-reduction surgery after pregnancy, then you will need to delay surgery for several months after you are finished lactating. This is to reduce the risk of infections and cysts after breast-reduction surgery. If you are between pregnancies and are planning to have more children in the not-too-distant future, then you may choose to hold off on breast-reduction surgery until you are finished having children. This is because subsequent pregnancies are progressively more likely to add size and change the shape of your breast even after breast reduction surgery. By waiting, a more long-lasting result can be achieved and may save you from wanting “touch-up” surgeries that ultimately add recovery time. However, if the symptoms of the large breasts are very apparent, it is worth doing it anytime.

Your surgeon cannot guarantee that a future pregnancy won’t negatively impact the results of your surgery.  After a breast reduction, you need to understand that a breast reduction will not protect against the natural changes that may occur to the breast after pregnancy. For example, if you have a breast reduction, then become pregnant, or gain weight for any reason, your breasts may increase in size.

6. What is the relation between Breast reduction surgery and breastfeeding?

Any surgery on your breasts can affect your ability to breastfeed in the future. A breast reduction is likely to reduce or even prevent you from normal breastfeeding afterward in some cases. If you are unsure about your future desire to breastfeed, you should discuss this with your board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Sreekar Harinatha.

7. How Do I Choose a Surgeon?

Your choice of surgeon is the single most important decision you must make if you wish to undergo breast reduction. 10. How much pain is there after breast reduction surgery?

Mild to moderate pain may occur. This pain is easily controlled with regular pain killers.

11. What are the risks involved with breast reduction surgery?

Very rarely, some loss of breast tissue may occur as a result of inadequate blood flow to the remaining breast tissue. This occurs more frequently in women who smoke. Occasionally, the reduced breasts are slightly uneven in size. Occasionally, surgical scars remain dark and raised after complete healing has occurred.

12. Can I get a breast lift with Breast Reduction?

Some plastic surgeons promote breast lift as a procedure that can be done in addition to breast reduction. These are usually just marketing tactics used to make their services sound more desirable. The truth of the matter is that a proper breast reduction is by nature the same as a breast lift. So always a breast reduction involves breast lift to a certain extent. The primary difference between the two procedures when done independently is that breast reduction involves the removal of tissue; while in a pure breast lift, no tissue is removed.

13. Can Breast Reduction be done with Liposuction?
