Laser tattoo removal breaks tattoo ink into tiny particles with short, powerful pulses of light. The body's natural filtering system then clears the particles over the following weeks. How does laser tattoo removal work?
- The laser sends very short, high-energy pulses into the skin.
- The ink absorbs the light and breaks into tiny fragments.
- Over the following weeks, the body's immune and lymphatic system carries the fragments away.
- Each session fades the tattoo further.
What affects how many sessions I need?
- Ink colour: black and dark blue respond best. Some colours, such as green and yellow, are harder to remove.
- Tattoo quality: professional tattoos have denser ink than amateur ones, so they usually need more sessions.
- Age of the tattoo: older tattoos often fade faster.

Aftercare and side effects
The area may be red, swollen or slightly blistered for a few days. Keep it clean, apply the prescribed ointment and avoid sun exposure. Temporary lightening or darkening of the skin can happen, especially in darker skin, and usually fades over time.
