Dental Implants in Bangalore

Medically reviewed by Dr Nikhitha Raghunath, BDS, MDS, KSDC Reg. No. 31715A

A dental implant replaces a missing tooth with a small titanium post placed in the jawbone, topped with a natural-looking crown. Over about 3–6 months, the bone bonds to the implant, so it works and feels like a natural tooth. At Contura Clinic, Bangalore, Dr Nikhitha Raghunath plans and places implants. She has placed many implants under the guidance of Dr Gunaseelan Rajan and team. Implants can replace one tooth, several teeth or a whole arch.

How are dental implants placed?

  1. Planning: examination, X-rays and a 3D scan to check bone height and nerve position.
  2. Placement: under local anaesthesia, the implant post is placed in the jawbone.
  3. Healing: over 3–6 months, the bone bonds to the implant. You may wear a temporary tooth.
  4. Crown: a custom crown is fixed onto the implant, matched to your other teeth.

If there isn't enough bone, a bone graft or sinus lift may be needed first.

Who is suitable for dental implants?

Most healthy adults with missing teeth. Good candidates have healthy gums and enough jawbone, or can have a bone graft. Smoking and uncontrolled diabetes raise the risk of the implant failing, so they need to be managed first.

Frequently asked questions

Is getting a dental implant painful?

The procedure is done under local anaesthesia, so you shouldn't feel pain during it. Most people have mild soreness for a few days, controlled with simple painkillers.

How long do dental implants last?

With good brushing, flossing and regular check-ups, implants can last many years, often for life. The crown on top may need replacing after some years.

How long does the whole implant process take?

Usually 3–6 months from placement to the final crown, to give the bone time to bond to the implant. Bone grafting adds time.

Can I get implants if I have diabetes?

Often yes, if your diabetes is well controlled. Your dentist will check with you and may ask for recent blood test results.
