Microneedling Radiofrequency (MNRF) for Acne Scars in Bangalore
Medically reviewed by Dr Nithya Raghunath, MD (Dermatology)
Microneedling radiofrequency (MNRF) treats acne scars, open pores and loose skin. Fine needles enter the skin to a set depth and release radiofrequency energy there, which makes the skin build new collagen and elastin. Because it uses no light, it is well suited to Indian and darker skin. At Contura Clinic, Bangalore, sessions take 30–60 minutes with 1–2 days of mild redness, and most people need 4–6 sessions.

How does microneedling RF work?
- The doctor sets the needle depth for your scars and skin.
- A motorised handpiece places very fine needles into the skin.
- Radiofrequency energy heats the deeper skin (the dermis) at the needle tips.
- Over the following months, the skin builds new collagen and elastin, which lifts scars and tightens pores.
The surface of the skin is largely spared, which keeps downtime short and the risk of pigmentation low.
Why MNRF suits Indian skin
Laser treatments use light, which can trigger dark patches (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) in Indian skin. MNRF uses radiofrequency energy, not light, so the risk of pigmentation is very low. It also suits sensitive skin.

What to expect after MNRF
- Straight after: redness and slight swelling.
- About 24 hours: tiny dot-like crusts may appear in the treated area.
- 1–2 days: redness settles, and you can carry on with normal work.
- 2–6 months: scars, pores and texture keep improving as collagen builds.
Numbing cream is applied for about 45 minutes before. Afterwards, use sunscreen every day, avoid makeup for 24 hours, and avoid retinoids, acids and scrubs for 3–5 days.
Frequently asked questions
How many MNRF sessions do I need for acne scars?
Most people need 4–6 sessions. The number depends on how deep and widespread your scars are.
Is MNRF safe for dark skin?
Yes. MNRF uses radiofrequency energy rather than light, so the risk of pigmentation is very low. It suits Indian, dark and tanned skin.
Does microneedling RF thin the skin?
No. It does the opposite: it prompts the skin to build new collagen, which strengthens and thickens it.
Are MNRF results permanent?
The improvement in scars is long-lasting once the course is complete, because the new collagen stays. Normal ageing continues, and new acne can cause new scars.
